A Painting a Day, the Alla Prima Way
May 5, 2018
One Saturday: May 5, 10:00am-4:00pm
All levels
Instructor: Kelli Folsom
Course description: The workshop will focus on fundamentals of:
• Starting with a clear vision
• Setting up a good composition
• Creating effective illusion of light and shadow
• Value structure
• Color strategy
• Brushwork techniques

This course will focus on completing one smaller work in a day. Kelli has used this method to vastly improve her painting by going for quantity over quality and carrying over lessons learned from the previous days' work into the next painting. By working faster and on a smaller scale, you will learn techniques more quickly and without wasting hours on a large work, only to realize that your painting looks overworked, or the composition was no good, your drawing was off or you just needed a better color strategy or concept. Kelli is even bringing oil paints and panels to share--all you have to bring are your own brushes!

Kelli Folsom is an exhibiting and award winning member of Oil Painters of America, American Women Artists and American Impressionists Society. She received her B.F.A. from Lyme Academy College of Fine Arts in 2011 and has come to be well known for her specialty in alla prima light and shadow still life painting. Her technique specifically focuses on achieving a look of depth and luminosity with wet into wet painting.
