EXPLORING ABSTRACT PAINTING
First Saturday of Each Month
Saturday, March 7th 10:00 am – 2:00 pm
Cost: $75 member
This workshop is offered on the first Saturday of each month. In each monthly session, we will explore a abstract painting? There are no limitations with how we choose to express ourselves visually by applying paint to a canvas. The class, taught by abstract painter, Melanie Warsinske, will begin with a short discussion of a well-known abstract painter – we will dissect their painting by looking at the techniques used; emotions evoked, etc. Why is this artist known throughout history?
This workshop is an opportunity for you to experiment with your current work and/or your new work as you expand your knowledge of abstraction. The class is open to all levels of artists (some knowledge of painting preferred) using your medium of choice. Melanie will work with each student individually and as a group group. Plan to have FUN, release your inner child, and find your ‘personal’ motivation and enjoy the process of creativity!
As Georgia O’Keeffe once said, ”I decided that the only thing I could do that was nobody else’s business was to paint. I could do as I chose because no one would care.”
Refreshments: Wine and snacks will be provided – and you’re welcome to bring your own to share. Plan to loosen up and have some fun exploring abstract painting!
Supply list: Bring your own painting supplies including a minimum of two canvases, (no smaller than approx. 16”x20”). One will be your practice canvas and the other canvas is for your new painting. Please bring any paintings you are currently working on! Also bring any supplies you have, including paint, brushes, painting palette, palette knife, paper towels, rags, painting attire –and special mediums or textures that you typically work with.
If you are new to painting: CAE will provide a limited selection of acrylic paint, brushes, and canvas for a nominal fee.
