Instructor: Sunny Monaco
This class is designed to explore different techniques of building, carving, decorating with slips(underglazes). Sunny will demonstrate handbuilding/wheel throwing techniques to build a birdhouse. The first two weeks of class will be dedicated to making the structures while the third class will be finishing and decorating the pieces with slip/underglazes. We will be glazing the pieces and loading and firing the glaze kiln. The last class will be a potluck critique.
September 12: Demo of birdhouses wheel thrown and handbuilt-design;begin making pieces
September 19: Make birdhouses
September 26: finishing up pieces and making other pieces
October 3rd: No Class! Dry and firing bisque kiln
October 10: glaze pieces load kiln
October 17: critique and potluck party


About the Instructor
Sunny Monaco received her BFA from the University of Colorado at Boulder, which included an exchange program in Ceramics at Nova Scotia College of Art and Design, and a MA from University of Colorado at Denver. Currently she is a studio artist in Boulder, Colorado and a part-time Art teacher. Sunny’s work has been shown at the BMOCA gallery in Boulder, Roshanda Art gallery in Niwot, Anna Leonowens Gallery in Halifax, NS Nova Scotia Museum of Fine Art in Halifax, NS, Sibelle Wolle Art Gallery at the University of Colorado, and Abanakee Art Studios in Indian Lake, NY. She is currently a member of the Foothills Art Center in Golden, CO and the Evergreen Center for the Arts. Her collaborative artwork, Stella Riga Designs, can be found in shops and galleries in Denver, Evergreen, Boulder, Buena Vista, Winter Park, Golden, Tabernash, Fraser, Glen Haven, Fort Collins, Aspen and Indian Lake, NY.
