Course description: Mary Ann Beckwith will serve as the juror in the 45th annual Rocky Mountain National Watermedia Exhibition, to be held at the Center for the Arts Evergreen. The “Brush and Beyond” Workshop will be an art altering experience! We will explore creative methods of watermedia application, including texturing and the building of layers of paint. Participants will be exposed to new techniques and materials that will allow them to better express their visions and ideas through their paintings. The methods taught and materials utilized will be suitable for both representational and abstract imagery. Demonstrations and discussions will encompass and focus on composition and design, how to recharge your work, sources of inspiration and the business of being an artist. Each day will include plenty of time for painting and optional critiques.


About the Instructor
The beautiful, cold, and remote shores of Lake Superior became home to Mary Ann Beckwith in 1970 and remain her home to this day. She raised her family there and found a wealth of inspiration for her painting and creative explorations in her surroundings.

In 1973, she was hired as an Instructor of Art at Michigan Technological University in Houghton, Michigan. Over the years, she was promoted until she achieved the ultimate rank of Full Professor. While teaching classes in Painting, Drawing, and Design, she twice won the Distinguished Teaching Award and was inducted into the Academy of Teaching Excellence at MTU. During that time, developing the artistic skills for talented and gifted students was her passion: as it still is today. She presently holds the title of Professor Emeritus.

The author of Creative Watercolor: A Step-by-Step Guide and Showcase, her work has been featured in many books and her magazine credits include a feature article in International Artist Magazine, along with many other articles on her life and work in many other publications.

She has served as juror for many National and Regional societies and organizations: including the American Watercolor Society 150th Annual Exhibition (Awards Jury, 2017); the National Watercolor Society (Jury Selection, 2011); the International Society of Experimental Artists Society (Juror of Selection and Awards, 2008 and 2011). She has judged State and regional Societies in California, Indiana, New Mexico, Florida, Hawaii, Wyoming, Louisiana, and many more. visit her website HERE.
