A cabinet of curiosities – or wunderkammer – stored and exhibited a wide variety of objects and artifacts, with a particular leaning towards the rare, eclectic, and esoteric. Through the selection of objects, they told a particular story about the world and its history. In this class, participants are encouraged to explore objects and their relationship to each other through aesthetic arrangement. Pull from the surrealist dreamscape of your imagination to create a collection of intriguing objects and arrange them to convey a narrative, or to evoke a certain mood or feeling from the viewer. Transport the observer to a new world of curiosity and wonder with your personal collection of small, curated creations. In the initial class, students will form their boxes and objects, whereas the second class will focus on decorating their pieces. Gita will also do a short demo on placing objects and the final touches so that when the glaze firing is done, students can feel confident in completing their projects on their own time.
