Award-winning watercolor and art professor Noi Watanakul will offer a special one-day 4-hour workshop on Saturday, October 3 for high school students. Noi will introduce the use of texture in watercolor. Generally texture is thought of as something that can be touched, felt and seen in 2-dimensional art such as textural enhancements in oil or acrylic. But there are several ways to visually suggest this in watercolor paintings by incorporating everyday items found at home such as salt, alcohol, paper towels, spray bottles or toothbrushes. Students will be introduced and shown how to use and explore use of these items (and more) to add texture and create a painting with watercolor. Noi will demonstrate to students how to use these techniques and apply different textures creating three or four small paintings. Once the students understand the concept, they can experiment and have freedom and fun to create their own paintings. With Noi’s help and guidance, they should have one or more finished paintings in the time allocated for this workshop.
