CAE Member Exhibition
January 11 – February 8, 2019
Opening Reception: January 11, 4:oo pm – 7:oo pm
The exhibition demonstrates approaches to reusing, recycling, or reclaiming as a way of showing the possibilities that lie in old materials. Our perceptions of and relationship to the idea of “waste” have been shifting for decades and we are constantly coming to terms with how we interact with objects on a day-to-day basis. The art world is no stranger to this concern. From runways to galleries, artists are exploring and experimenting with reused and re-purposed materials as a means of discovering new mediums and innovating design. This movement allows artists and audiences alike to adopt a new perspective on the items we view as disposable and infuses them with fresh functions and purposes. The use of plastic bags to weave into textile pieces, soda cans to form figurative sculptures, and old buttons to make 3D portraits reveal the myriad ways that creative transformation can occur even with seemingly mundane objects.
