Painting Vibrant Watercolors with Soon Warren
Dates: July 27, 28, and 29, 2022 (Wednesday, Thursday & Friday)
Time: 9:30am to 4:00pm each day with an hour break for lunch

Learn easy techniques to tackle more challenging subjects and capture exciting color effects. Soon will show you simple steps to develop your watercolor painting layer by layer with controlled glazes and direct painting to capture realistic detail. Workshop participants will learn:
- Glazing and washing techniques to create a luminous underpainting
- How to utilize light and dark values in order to capture the sparkle of crystal, smooth background wash, or pouring background
- How to approach a painting
- How to incorporate the concept of color theory and color relationships into a painting.

Watercolor Painting Material List
- Nos. 4, 8, 10, 12 round brushes (Silver Black Velvet)
- 140 pound Cold-pressed watercolor paper (half sheet, 22”x15”) or 300 pound cold-pressed paper (Preference: Arches or Winsor & Newton)
- A sturdy board, ply wood or bath board, or gator board, size 24”x17” 1/8 inches
- Palette
- Water Bowl
- Frisket (Masking Fluid)- I prefer yellow colored Winsor & Newton
- Cotton rag or paper towels
- Mechanical pencil with .5 mm HB and an eraser
- Spray bottle
- 1.5” tinted masking tape (3M)
* Note: bring all the material you normally use for painting, especially brushes and paints.

- Permanent Alizarin Crimson (Winsor & Newton)
- Cadmium Yellow, or Permanent Yellow Deep and Light (if you have Aureolin or Winsor Yellow, bring them, too)
- Hooker’s Green
- Indigo
- Permanent Rose or Quinacridone Rose
- Prussian Blue
- Sepia
- Scarlet Lake (Winsor & Newton) or Vermilion (Mission Gold
- Ultramarine Blue
- Turquoise Green (Sennelier)
- Winsor Violet (Dioxazine)
