This workshop will take place in-person at Center for the Arts Evergreen AND on Zoom simultaneously. You can participate in either format!
Students will have a 30-60 minute break for lunch.
In this master workshop, you have the chance to spend two days learning from RMNW’s 2021 Juror and acclaimed-painter, Steve Griggs. You’ll learn how to create loose, moving, and evocative watercolor paintings with free and generous brush strokes. During this workshop, beginner to advanced level painters are invited to try out a variety of watercolor painting strategies and techniques to create loose, intuitive, free, and spontaneous effects. You will learn about color mixing, glazes, composition, drying time, thickness, and lost and found edges, while painting short, warm-up sketches as well as finished landscape, cityscape, and/or waterscape paintings.
Workshop sessions start with a demonstration painting, followed by a short instruction session, and then time for participants to work on their own paintings with individual attention and feedback. At the end of the painting session the group will gather for positive and encouraging critique, typically filled with laughter and fun. After a lunch break, the afternoon sessions follow the same format. This style of painting will move participants out of their comfort zone. There is sure to be a lot of laughter and camaraderie as participants encourage one another’s efforts and discover the beauty that emerges as they develop their own loose painting voice.
