Calligraphy is as old as writing itself and endures as a highly respected form of art around the world today. The versatility of calligraphy can be seen as an enhancement to everyday writing tasks, a craft, and a fine art when combined with painting, sculpture, textiles, and printmaking.

In this workshop, students will learn basic calligraphy skills including preparing and writing with a metal nib pen, managing liquid ink, and practicing the Foundational hand. Strategies for at-home practice will be emphasized. The product for the day will be the creation of a hand-lettered and painted simple art book.

This class is recommended for beginning – intermediate students or those who have taken Calligraphy: The Art of Beautiful Handwriting, Part I although this is not a pre-requisite.

Wendy Satsky Bio:

Wendy Satsky started painting the seashells she collected at the Jersey shore and molding clay before she was in kindergarten. After graduating from Kean University with a degree in fine arts education, she continued her studies at the New York School of Visual Arts while pursuing a career in commercial art. Wendy began her second career as an art educator after moving to Colorado.

As a graphic designer and greeting card artist, Wendy developed a passion for integrating visual and written languages and using the power of art as communication. She earned a Master’s degree from Colorado State University and dedicated herself to public education, where she was twice awarded outstanding art educator. While appreciating her students’ unique gifts and talents, Wendy used art as a way to build esteem in adolescents and teens.

During this current chapter of her life, Wendy continues to connect with people through art. Whether she’s teaching a workshop, curating a show, or using her own work to inspire others, Wendy’s love of art is fully expressed.
