Summer Camp 2020

2020 Summer Camp at CAE (Registration opens March 1st at 9:00 am!)

This summer we are excited to roll out 16 exciting sessions of camp for kids and tween/teens. In 2020, we have decided to break up our offerings into different segments to better meet the needs of the Evergreen community. Camp is available in half-day morning or afternoon sessions with a full day option. Our teachers complete full background checks and are well-educated.

  • Morning sessions will run from 9:00 am – 12:00 pm Monday through Friday.
  • Afternoon sessions will run from 1:00 pm – 4:00 pm Monday through Friday.
  • Full day sessions will run from 9:00 am – 4:00 pm Monday through Friday. *For those students that stay with us for the full-day, they will enjoy a break between sessions with lunch in the park.

*FUNdamental Art Practices will provide instruction in print making, painting, and drawing.

More Session Details:

Our summer camp sessions are small–only 8 students per session. This allows our highly-experienced instructors to adjust their teaching to the experience level of each class. Elementary student might enjoy a first look at concepts or build upon techniques already taught in their school programs. Middle school and high school student will enjoy more complex teaching and one-on-one coaching that will push their artistic sensibilities.

  • FUNdamental Art PAINTING
    • This will be a week-long exploration of painting. Students will learn about color theory, mixing value scales, and sketching. Then they’ll dive into acrylic and watercolor painting techniques producing original works they can take home.

  • FUNdamental Art PRINTMAKING
    • This will be a week-long exploration of printmaking. Students will discover how artists and designers have experimented with printmaking through the years, and then try their hands at different printmaking processes, such as monoprint, foil relief, and linocut techniques. Kids will leave with their own collection of individual prints

  • FUNdamental Art DRAWING
    • This will be a week-long exploration of drawing. Students will learn pencil and charcoal techniques, figure drawing, portraiture, landscape, and so much more. Students will create original works in graphite, charcoal, colored pencil, pen and ink, conte and sumi (Japanese ink drawing).

  • Architectural Structures in Clay
    • Does your student love clay? Do you have a budding engineer or architect. This camp is designed to explore varied techniques in clay (slab, coil, pinch, and carving techniques). We’ll make bird houses or dog houses or tiny lemonade stands in clay. If your student can imagine an architectural structure, he or she can bring it to life in clay. Instruction will also be offered on handbuilding and wheel throwing techniques, building, carving, decorating with slips (underglazes), kiln firing, and safety. On the last day, students will take part in an open studio and critique with their camp peers!

  • Clay Sculptures
    • Does your student love clay? This camp is designed to explore varied techniques in clay (slab, coil, pinch, and carving techniques). We’ll make original sculptures of animals or creatures. Bring photos of your favorite animals, or design your own creature and make it come to life in clay. Instruction will also be offered on kiln firing and safety. On the last day, students will take part in an open studio and critique with their camp peers!

  • Re-imagining the Mona Lisa
    • Why is the Mona Lisa one of the most famous painting in the world? Over 8 million people travel to see her at the Louvre each year. Discover her history along with the iconic influences she has had on us throughout history and pop culture today! Students will re-create the Mona Lisa in sculptural form and as a tile piece of their own interpretation of how they view her.

  • Found Objects
    • What are the treasures you can find in the world around you, and how do artists re-purpose them into art. Found Object will offer instruction on the history and importance of sculpture and basic technique demo. Students will begin by designing several bird nests using found and natural objects. Daily walks outside to collect supplies (pine cones, branches, leaves, stones, etc.) and time in the studio will give student inspiration for their sculptural birds’ nests. On the last day of camp, students will set up an art show, and have a gallery opening, which will include their sculptural works and design drawings.

  • Selfie Tiles in Clay
    • This 4-day camp for younger kids (aged 5-7) will explore the history and importance of Portraitures.  Kids will learn several different ways to make tile portraits, and create a portrait of themselves in clay. Hand building techniques, glazing, kiln and fire safety, will be covered. On the last day, students will take part in an open studio and critique with their camp peers! Such a fun introduction to art!
