CAE AUXILIARY GALLERIES

In addition to its Main Gallery, Center for the Arts Evergreen also curates smaller temporary art exhibitions in its Community Room and Board Room Galleries. Artwork on display is almost always available for sale, supporting both local artists and programming at CAE. If you are interested in purchasing a piece you have seen in one of our auxiliary spaces, please get in touch with Chris Stevens, director of exhibitions, at chris@evergreenarts.org or 303.674.0052.

COMMUNITY ROOM GALLERY

The community room functions as a flexible gallery space, featuring rotating exhibitions by local artists that bring fresh visual interest to the room. With natural light, adaptable layout, and direct access to a quiet courtyard, the space offers a simple yet artful setting for gatherings and events.

From the beginning, I have found watercolor uncontrollable, fluid and alive. Because of this, my artwork has changed over the years and has recently been influenced by my teaching of the ever challenging medium. Being a teacher has led me to experiment with watercolor by adding mixed media so as to stimulate myself and my students to come up with refreshing works of art. When I began painting years ago, I relied on visual information and instruction from my teachers to create my work. Now I have a background of information to begin a painting with but know that I can experiment with my own ideas and mixed media to create a piece of artwork that is exciting.

I came to put paint on paper long after having been inspired by the impressionist painters while studying for my Bachelor of Arts Degree in Paris and Grenoble, France. After graduation from the University of Illinois, I married and moved to New England and was immersed in the fine art museums of Harvard College and Boston, MA. Subsequently we moved to Denver, Colorado where we enjoyed the mountains from a distance but could not resist their siren call. After a few years we moved to Evergreen. During this time, I discovered Georgia O'keefe and fell in love with her sensuous style of painting flowers and southwestern landscapes. I finally discovered my muse was watercolor and decided to concentrate my painting efforts in that medium. I am currently painting contemporary mountain landscapes. I continue to explore the medium of watercolor, and it constantly reveals itself to me in different ways and inspires me to be more creative.

BOARD ROOM GALLERY

The conference room doubles as an intimate gallery space, featuring rotating artwork that adds character and visual interest to a quiet, private setting. Suited for small gatherings, meetings, or workshops, the space offers a professional atmosphere within a creative environment.

I get my inspiration from nature and in particular the subtle and sometimes bold contrasts in light, color and shadow during different times of the day. My subjects include landscapes, still life's and other images from my travels around the United States. I prefer the contrast you see early in the morning and late afternoon. The media I use include watercolor, oil, soft and oil pastels, graphite/colored pencils and gouache. My education includes a BA in Art Education and a Master of Fine Art with an emphasis on drawing and print making including lithography, intaglio and mixed media drawings. My Facebook site, Glasmire Arts, has a display of my most recent work.
