  • Firing, use of glazes, and studio equipment are included in the registration fee for all classes.
  • Clay is only included in introductory courses. Classes designated as All Level or Inter/Adv must purchase clay through the CAE front desk at $20 per 25lb bag.
  • We do not offer make-up time for missed classes or incomplete work. Please ensure you can attend all the class meeting dates listed and complete all work within the allotted time.
MEET OUR INSTRUCTORS

Discover your new favorite hobby! Introduction to Wheel Throwing is a course for students who are new to ceramics. Students will learn the fundamentals of ceramics including the various clay bodies, glazing techniques, equipment, and throwing on a pottery wheel.

Minimum 3/Maximum 8 students
$205 for CAE Members / $235 for non-members (Supplies, use of glazes, firing included)

This class is designed for beginners and for those who want to learn basic ceramics techniques and throwing skills. The focus of this course will be placed on centering, opening, pulling, and shaping pieces thrown on the potter's wheel. Students will strengthen their wheel skills with guidance from the instructor on how to throw, trim, and glaze pieces. Appropriate for ages 16+ and all skill levels are welcome! Students should bring an apron, hand towel, and a sketchbook/journal.

All are welcome to All Levels Wheel throwing! In this course, instructors will meet each student where they are in their wheel throwing journey. This class is meant to serve students who would like to improve their pottery skills through individual coaching and practice.

Minimum 3/Maximum 8 students
$205 member / $235 non-member (Use of studio tools, glazes, & firing included. Purchase clay separately).

Whether you are an experienced wheel thrower or a beginner looking to learn the basics of wheel throwing, this is the class for you! Our instructor will meet you where you are and help you on your wheel throwing journey to achieve your throwing goals. This weekday morning class will give you the opportunity to schedule a few hours of creative time for yourself with as much or little guidance as you need.
• Week 1 – Intro, studio tour, class demo - discussion of what pieces you wish to create, project planning - begin to make pieces
• Week 2 – Making, trimming, and prepping pieces to dry, Finish any pieces- Bisque firing
• Week 3 - Glazing all pieces - Glaze firing
• Week 4 -Unload glaze kiln! Class discussion/critique of work and studio clean.

Registration fee does not include clay. Students can purchase their clay from the front desk for $20 for a 25lb bag on or before the first day of class.

Intermediate/Advanced Wheel Throwing is a course for students who have experience in wheel throwing which allows them to center at least 3 lbs of clay. Instructors will challenge students to bring their work to the next level by trying to throw larger, more challenging forms, and advanced techniques.

Minimum 3/Maximum 8 students
$220 member / $242 non-member (Use of studio tools, glazes, & firing included. Purchase clay separately).

Have you taken some beginning ceramics classes but feel you're ready to take the next step? Would you like further instruction on how to improve and refine your ceramic work? Well, bring your project ideas to this Tuesday evening class with Tanya Keith of Luna Pottery and learn intermediate/advanced techniques for throwing, refining your trimming, and improving your overall ceramics knowledge and skills. Whether you want to learn how make bowls, mugs, pitchers, chip & dip servers, or flower pots this class will help you take your pottery to the next level.

Registration fee does not include clay. Students can purchase their clay from the front desk for $20 for a 25lb bag on or before the first day of class.

Hand-building is a term used to describe creating ceramics without the use of a pottery wheel. This is a course for ceramicists of all levels. Students will learn the fundamentals of building functional and decorative pieces using pinch, coil, and slab techniques, extruding, as well as sculpture.

Minimum 3/Maximum 8 students
$198 members / $218 non-members (Use of studio tools, glazes, & firing included. Purchase clay separately).

Get your hands dirty in this 6-week, all levels hand-building class! Our instructor will walk students through the different clay bodies, stages of clay, and the many hand-building techniques that you can use to bring your project ideas to life!

Kids love clay! Introduce your kiddos to the therapeutic art of ceramics. CAE offers hand-building for students under 10 and wheel throwing for the pre-teens and teens.  Join us for a daytime Homeschool clay class or an after-school teen wheel or Teen Art Club experience. CENTER FOR THE ARTS EVERGREEN EDUCATION POLICIES

REGISTRATION

Registration for Center for the Arts Evergreen (CAE) classes can be completed on our website (evergreenarts.org/classes), over the phone (303-674-0056), or in person. If you are registering by phone, please have your credit number ready to make a payment. In person, we accept credit cards, cash, or checks. CAE is open from 8 am-5 pm T-F and from 10 am-4 pm on Saturdays. Please note that class registration ends 24 hours before the class starts, so register early.

Class space cannot be reserved without full payment. Please note that classes require a minimum number of students. We publish these minimums on our website for each individual class. Classes are subject to cancellation due to insufficient registration. To respect our students’ and our instructors’ time, we will cancel the class one week before the first meeting if we have not met the minimum. To avoid class cancellations, please register early and encourage others to register for the class, too!

CANCELLATIONS

  • If CAE cancels a class due to unmet minimums, we will issue a full refund or a class credit to you.
  • If YOU cancel a class or workshop registration:
  • Please let us know in writing by email (emiko@evergreenarts.org) at least 14 days before the start of class. If we receive written notification before the 14-day cutoff, CAE will issue a class credit or a full refund of your payment.
  • If cancellations are made less than 14 days before the class starts, CAE CANNOT issue any refunds or class credits.
  • If you register for a class within 14 days or less of the class start, no refunds or credits can be provided if you cancel your registration.
  • We cannot issue refunds or class credits for no-shows to class.

CLASS CREDITS

If you cancel a class or workshop registration before the 14-day deadline or if CAE cancels due to unmet minimums, you may choose to receive a credit for a future class or workshop. If you choose a credit, that credit must be used within the calendar year. (e.g., All credits issued in 2023 must be used before December 31, 2023.)

Special Classes and Workshops: In the event that CAE has procured an out-of-state or special facilitator, one month is required for cancellation. Credit card fees are deducted from the refund amount.

Weather Policy: CAE follows the schedule set forth by Jefferson County Schools. However, our teachers can also make the decision to cancel classes due to the weather. Safety is our first priority. In the event of a weather cancellation, the teacher will arrange a make-up class session.
