Materials Needed from Participants

Supply List:

  • Paint Colors– Traditional Palette (If you cannot find these exact color names, just try to find something close.)

Liquitex basics is a great brand to use for beginners and you can find it at Michaels. I use the Golden brand, which is more expensive, but more pigmented (also at Michaels). I also like Nova color, which you can order online–great value and bright colors.

  1. Cadmium Red (warm)
  2. Quinacridone Magenta (cool)
  3. Ultramarine Blue (warm)
  4. Phthalo Blue (cool)
  5. Cadmium Yellow or Hansa Yellow (warm)
  6. Transparent Yellow or very light/bright yellow (cool)
  7. Burnt Umber (warm neutral)
  8. Titanium White
  9. Optional to get Payne’s gray (cool neutral) – I really like having it in my palette
  10. Black
  • Paint Brushes
  1. Flat – variety of sizes – I like a large flat for covering large surfaces, medium and then a smaller size
  2. Round – 3 sizes – make sure one of them is a small point liner
  3. Make sure a few of your brushes are rough, rather than smooth
  • Masterson Sta-Wet Palette (Enclosed container that keeps your paint wet and creates less waste, especially if you have mixed colors)
  • Mediums
  1. Slow dry extender/retarder
  2. White modeling/texture paste
  3. Heavy gel medium
  • Painting Surface
  1. 16×20 canvas
  2. Bring more if you want to work on more than one project in class
