Ready to explore portrait painting but not sure where to start? This welcoming class is designed for beginner to intermediate students who want to build confidence with oil paint while learning the timeless art of portraiture. Instructor Mark Creamer will guide you through essential techniques to help you translate the human form onto canvas—no live models, no pressure, just supportive instruction and steady progress.

You’ll work from photo references (your own or ones provided), and each week you’ll build a solid foundation in oil painting while exploring how to represent the human face with structure, depth, and expression. This class is a great place to start developing your style while learning in a relaxed, engaging environment.

What You’ll Learn:

• How to work with oil paints and Liquin medium

• Basics of human anatomy as it relates to portrait painting

• Techniques for achieving proportion and likeness

• Approaches to layering, glazing, and mixing color

• How to apply oil paint for a cohesive, expressive portrait

Bring a printed or digital reference image you’d like to paint, or work with Mark to choose one that excites you. Whether you’re new to oils or looking to strengthen your skills, this class will set you up for success.
