Min 5 / Max 25
In this guided workshop, you’ll step into the dramatic, contemplative world of Caspar David Friedrich and recreate a painting inspired by his iconic masterpiece The Wanderer Above the Sea of Fog. Immerse yourself in sweeping mist, distant mountain peaks, and the powerful stillness of standing above it all.
Working on a pre-sketched canvas, you’ll explore atmospheric layering, depth through subtle color shifts, and the art of capturing mood through landscape. Artist and instructor Jessica Mahan will guide you step by step, helping you build soft fog effects, create dimension in the mountains, and bring the solitary figure to life against the vast expanse of nature.
This class is perfect for beginners and experienced painters alike. It’s a reflective and inspiring space to slow down, experiment with light and shadow, and discover how landscape can tell a deeply personal story.
All materials are provided. No drawing or experience necessary — canvases are pre-sketched! Just bring your creativity and prepare to lose yourself in the mystery and majesty of the mountains.

Jessica MahanJessica Mahan is a professional acrylic and oil painter and an art teacher with a degree in Art Education and Secondary Education. She previously taught art in the public school system for 7 years, has been a professional artist for 8 years and loves sharing her love of art with others through classes, workshops, retreats and paint at home kits. She is in awe of the natural world. Nature has the ability to wake up her mind to the present moment, sparking ideas and insight. The resulting paintings are vivid, emotional, playful and dreamlike. Her art practice helps her slow down and notice the world around her by examining shapes, colors, movement rhythms and light. She often uses symbolism and thinks of her work as visual poetry. Outside of art, she loves travel, yoga, nature, music and hanging out with her dog.
