Emily teaches fused glass classes to youth, teens, and adults at CAE, and leads coordination for the summer camp program, including several themed camps throughout the season.

Originally from Madison, Wisconsin, Emily earned her Bachelor of Fine Arts in 3D Art from the University of Wisconsin–Stevens Point, followed by a Master’s in Craft and Material Studies from Virginia Commonwealth University, where she focused on glass. She’s been working with the material for 12 years now, and her favorite part of teaching is watching students of all ages discover new ways to use it — often through a steady stream of questions and plenty of summer camp dance parties.

Emily is drawn to CAE’s mission and the chance to work with people from all walks of life. She sees art as a kind of meditation, and loves that CAE offers space both for fine art and for free, open-ended creating.

Outside the classroom, Emily runs her own apothecary glass business and sculpts glass plants, vending at markets whenever she can — staying connected to her own art practice alongside teaching. She’s also an avid hula hooper and flow artist, with interests spanning fire spinning, aerial dance, and time outdoors; she recently hiked her first 14er and has since caught the alpine flower bug.

At home, she’s kept company by her two cats: Plato the Philosofur (age 7) and Manny (age 4), plus a wide circle of close friends she loves learning and adventuring with.

Fun fact: Emily was once a competitive cheerleader, and her last name literally translates to “cakebaker” in German.
