Watercolor en Plein Air with Janet Schaus

9 am – 12 pm
$167 CAE Member / $185 Non-Member
Minimum Students: 6 / Maximum Students: 16

This class combines two of the best things summer has to offer – spending time outdoors and painting. In this four-week class, we will be painting on location in or around the Evergreen area. If you are new to plein air painting, this is a perfect opportunity to get started. If you are a seasoned plein air painter, this will be a fun chance to expand your skills. Each day, we will meet up and paint at a carefully selected location (to be sent prior to the day of painting). The day will begin with a quick demo addressing compositional challenges, keeping a translucent quality to your painting, and how to simplify a scene. We will approach painting skies, luminescent middle grounds, and textured foregrounds in landscapes, cityscapes, and rural settings. You can expect a lot of individual attention to answer questions and address progress throughout the class. A critique before heading home will show you everyone’s interpretation of the area we paint in.

Bring a lawn chair and sketchbook or a pochade set up, and join us for some fun and relaxing time outside, hanging out with fellow artists and making some art.

We will paint weather permitting and will only reschedule in the event of high winds, lightning, or rain. Make-up dates will be determined if needed.

For as long as I can remember, art has driven me. I am continually amazed and inspired by the talent that abounds in this world. My love of beauty, nature, travel, and history is fueled by my passion for acquiring knowledge and making art. I appreciate changes in light, color, shadows, and contrasts; these are the elements that inspire my creativity. Born in Denver and raised in Summit county, my love of nature continues to influence the art I make. While I am mostly self-taught I have had the great fortune to paint with some amazing artists over the years, learning something valuable and different from each, including using different mediums. Mostly privately commissioned, I have worked throughout the US, Canada, and Switzerland. My work has been included in shows in and around Denver and Evergreen. My passions are wide and varied, from food to skiing, hiking, exploring, and traveling. My creative journey continues to evolve and expand organically.
