Discover the beauty, versatility, and expressive potential of watercolor in this welcoming monthly class with artist Janet Schaus. Designed for complete beginners as well as artists looking to refresh or expand their skills, this class offers a gentle yet thorough introduction to the fundamentals of watercolor painting.

Each session stands on its own as an introduction or refresher, and can also be paired with additional months for an ongoing, deepening learning experience.

Together, we will explore:

  • Essential watercolor techniques and brushwork
  • Tools, materials, and the unique aesthetics of the medium
  • Basic composition, value studies, and color theory—specifically tailored to watercolor
  • Methods for painting a variety of subjects from life, including both organic and non-organic objects

The class is interactive and hands-on, with demonstrations and personalized instruction as you paint. Students are encouraged to practice outside of class in order to discover their own style and build confidence with the medium.

By the end of the session, you’ll feel comfortable continuing your watercolor journey on your own—and you may just find yourself falling in love with this timeless, endlessly rewarding art form.
