Pop-Up Exhibit: Brick by Brick – LEGO Brick Build Art

Exhibition Runs March 13 – 22

Public Opening Reception Thursday, March 13 from 4-7 pm

Center for the Arts Evergreen (CAE) is thrilled to host Brick by Brick: A LEGO Brick Build Art Exhibition, a first-of-its-kind pop-up exhibition for CAE celebrating LEGO as a dynamic and inspiring art form. Running from March 13 – 22, this exhibition showcases the boundless creativity of LEGO builders of all ages and skill levels and nearly 50 unique custom builds. From intricate sculptures to imaginative designs, Brick by Brick redefines LEGO as more than a toy—it is a legitimate and exciting artistic medium that fosters innovation, storytelling, and community connection. The public is invited to the opening reception on Thursday, March 13, from 4 – 7 pm, where they can explore the exhibit and meet some of the talented artists behind the builds.

The vision for Brick by Brick comes from Mason Martin, a lifelong LEGO enthusiast who developed the exhibition as part of his high school capstone project. “LEGO has been a constant source of inspiration, creativity, and joy for me,” Martin shares. “This show is a way to share that passion with my community and create something meaningful that brings people together.” CAE has provided an ideal space for this unique showcase, reinforcing its mission of making the arts accessible and engaging for all.

A highlight of the exhibition is its esteemed guest juror, Aaron Newman—a former LEGO Masters contestant, professional brick-building artist, and Senior Model Designer for The LEGO Group in Billund, Denmark. His expertise and passion for LEGO as an art form bring an exciting level of prestige to the event. The exhibition is free to enter, and awards will be given for First Place, Second Place, and Third Place.

Join us in celebrating the artistry and imagination behind custom LEGO brick builds. Whether you’re a lifelong builder or new to the world of LEGO art, Brick by Brick is sure to inspire and delight.

ABOUT MASON MARTIN

Mason Martin has been building with LEGO since the age of four or five, inspired by his older brother. His first major build was the LEGO Executor, a large and complex set he assembled at just six years old. Between the ages of seven and ten, Mason began creating his own original designs, and by thirteen, he was studying under renowned LEGO artist and designer Aaron Newman, who mentored him in the art of LEGO brick building. At fourteen, Mason attended his first LEGO convention, showcasing a collaborative build with Aaron and launching his Flickr page, masonbluemartin, to share his creations. He continued honing his skills under Aaron’s guidance until the age of fifteen and participated in his second LEGO convention at sixteen.

Now a high school senior, Mason is presenting Brick by Brick: A LEGO Brick Build Art Exhibition at Center for the Arts Evergreen as his senior capstone project. He has played a key role in every aspect of the exhibition’s development, from crafting the call for entry to securing a professional juror and planning the opening night reception. Mason views LEGO as a free-form art medium, allowing for creative expression while challenging him to work within the constraints of available pieces and colors. His passion for LEGO as an art form continues to grow, shaping both his artistic vision and his future aspirations.
