If you have used slab building in the past, you’ll know the touchy game of finding the sweet spot where the slab is rigid enough to hold its shape but not so much that you lose the ability to manipulate the clay.  Depending on the shape and size you’re trying to achieve, you may be limited due to gravitational restrictions.  A fantastic workaround is using tar paper as a type of exterior armature.  In the workshop, you’ll learn how to utilize tar paper to further your explorations of shape and technique in your studio.  Come prepared with a few sketches for a vase profile you might be interested in.  We will be working on a 12″-18″ scale.  All levels are welcome.

Ceramics classes are held in the CAE Ceramics studio in the Miller House, beneath Resilience 1220, next to Buchanan Rec Center.
